MANTA: FORO PREPARATORIO DE CONFERENCIA MUNDIAL NO BASES

El Foro Preparatorio de la Conferencia Mundial por la Abolición de las Bases Militares Extranjeras se realiza este sábado 10 de febrero en la ciudad de Manta con la participación de organizaciones sociales, campesinas, juveniles, de derechos humanos de Manabí y del resto del Ecuador. El Foro denominado “Sí a mi tierra, No a la guerra” se realizará en el Auditorio de la FEUE de la Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de 09h00 a 17h00.

El objetivo es elaborar propuestas de organizaciones del Ecuador para la Conferencia Mundial No Bases, compartir experiencias de las organizaciones que luchan contra la presencia de militares estadounidenses en la Base de Manta y las que desarrollan acciones en la frontera y diseñar la agenda de la Coalición No Bases Ecuador.

En el Foro Público, que se realizará en la mañana del 10 de febrero, participarán como ponentes el sociólogo Alejandro Moreano, la comunicadora Helga Serrano, el analista Víctor Hugo Jijón, el investigador Luis Saavedra, el catedrático y dirigente manabita Miguel Morán y la activista Lisset Coba. Ellos abordarán temas de la coyuntura global, la soberanía y militarización extranjera, la situación de la Base de Manta y la Frontera Norte, el impacto de las bases militares extranjeras en las mujeres y la Conferencia Mundial No Bases. En la tarde se realizará trabajo de grupos con el fin de ubicar los impactos de la base de Manta y la frontera Norte en la paz, los derechos humanos y la soberanía, así como preparar una posición frente a la Conferencia Mundial no Bases.

La Conferencia Mundial por la Abolición de las Bases Militares Extranjeras se realizará del 5 al 9 de marzo. Participarán activistas por la paz y la justicia que se oponen al militarismo y a las bases militares ubicadas en Corea, Japón, Filipinas, Grecia, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Estados Unidos y otros países. Del 5 al 7 de marzo la Conferencia Mundial se realizará en el Centro Cultural de la Universidad Católica de Quito.

El 8 de marzo, Día Internacional de la Mujer, se realizará la Caravana “Mujeres por la Paz”, liderada por la estadounidense Medea Benjamín, fundadora de la organización de mujeres por la paz Code Pink; la brasileña Socorro Gómez, dirigente de CEBRAPAZ y Ministra de Equidad de Género, la activista filipina Corazón Valdez, la luchadora portorriqueña Wanda Colón y organizaciones de mujeres del Ecuador. El 9 de marzo se realizará una Conferencia a cargo del Premio Nobel de la Paz, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, junto con luchadores contra bases militares en otros países del mundo, resaltando la lucha contra la presencia de militares estadounidenses en la Base de Manta.

La Conferencia Mundial busca analizar el rol de las bases militares extranjeras y sus impactos sobre la población y el medio ambiente, al tiempo de inaugurar la Red Mundial contra las Bases Militares y establecer sus políticas, estrategias y formas de coordinación.

Otro mundo no será posible sin la abolición de las bases militares y la desmilitarización de las sociedades a nivel nacional y global.

 

MANTA: PREPARATORY FORUM OF WORLD-WIDE CONFERENCE NO BASES

The preparatory forum of the world-wide conference for the abolition of foreign military bases will be held this saturday the 10th of february in the city of Manta with the participation of social organizations, farmers, youth, organizations of human rights of Manabí and the rest of Ecuador. The forum denominated "yes to my earth, no to the war" will be held in the audience of the feue of the university Laica Eloy Alfaro the 09h00 to 17h00.

The objective is to elaborate proposals of organizations of ecuador for the world-wide conference no bases, to share experiences of the organizations who fight against the presence of the american military in the base of manta and those that develops actions in the border and to design the agenda of the coalition ecuador no bases.

In the public forum, that will take place in the morning of the 10th of february, the sociologist alexander moreano, the communicator helga serrano, the analyst víctor hugo jijón, the investigator luis saavedra, the university professor and manabita leader miguel moran and the activist lisset coba will participate like speakers. they will approach subjects like the global conjuncture, the sovereignty and foreign militarization, the north situation of the base of manta and border, the impact of the foreign military bases on women and the world-wide conference no bases. in the afternoon we will work in groups with the purpose of locating the impacts of the base of manta and the northern border on peace, the human rights and the sovereignty, as well as prepare a position for the world-wide conference no bases.

The world-wide conference for the abolition of foreign military bases will be held from the 5th to the 9th of march. activists for peace and justice that are against militarism and against the military bases located in korea, japan, philippines, greece, port rico, el salvador, united states and other countries. from the 5th to the 7th of march the world-wide conference will take place in the cultural center of the catholic university of quito.

The 8th of march, the international day of the woman, there is the caravan "women for peace", led by the american medea benjamin, founder of the organization of women for peace code pink; the brazilian socorro gomez, leader of cebrapaz and minister of equality of gender, the philippine activist corazon valdez, the fighter of puerto rico wanda colon and organizations of women of ecuador. the 9th of march a conference will take place in charge of the nobel prize for peace winner, adolph perez esquivel, along with fighters against military bases in other countries of the world, standing out the fight against the presence of the american military in the base of manta.

The world-wide conference wants to analyze the roll of the foreign military bases and its impacts on the population and the environment, to inaugurate the world-wide network against military bases and to establish its policies, strategies and forms of coordination.

Another world will not be possible without the abolition of the military bases and the demilitarization of the societies at national and global level.
