De nuestras consideraciones:
La Asociación Cristiana de Jóvenes del Ecuador (ACJ-YMCA) desea
manifestar su respaldo a la resolución aprobada por la Asamblea de las
Naciones Unidas por 144 países el 21 de octubre de 2003, que expresa
grave preocupación sobre la construcción de un muro en los Territorios
Ocupados Palestinos. El muro confiscaría y destruiría territorios
y recursos palestinos, afectando a miles de pobladores y pobladoras.
La construcción del muro afecta al proceso de paz en la región
y de manera específica al trabajo de nuestra ACJ fraterna en Jerusalén
Oriental donde tiene fuerte presencia en el área de Beit Jala, por lo
cual se pone en riesgo el trabajo de la ACJ en la región.
El muro en Beit Jala y Al Khader separaría a los pobladores de sus terrenos
y sembríos, afectando su subsistencia. El muro también
confiscaría grandes extensiones de territorio y aislaría a muchos
palestinos/as en cantones dentro del muro. Esta área tiene particular
importancia para la ACJ en la región por cuanto en estos campos se lleva
adelante la campaña "Manteniendo Viva la Esperanza", mediante
la cual se han sembrado miles de olivos con el apoyo de ACJs alrededor del
mundo.
Por estas razones y considerando nuestra misión como organización
de la sociedad civil que promoueve la defensa de la vida y de los derechos
ciudadanos, nos sumamos a las voces que se oponen a la construcción
del muro. La ACJ se mantiene firme en el propósito de promover
la paz, la justicia y los derechos humanos en Palestina e Israel, en línea
con la resolución aprobada en el 15 Consejo Mundial de ACJs en 2002.

Opposition
to the construction of the
wall in the Occupied Palestinian

Dear Sir:
The YMCA-ACJ in Ecuador expresses its support for the resolution approved by
144 countries in the United Nations Assembly on 21 October 2003 that expressed
grave concern over the commencement and construction of a wall in the Occupied
Palestinian Territory. The wall has confiscated and destroyed Palestinian land
and resources, disrupted the lives of thousands of protected civilians and
de facto annexed large areas of territory.
The construction of the wall undermines the peace process in the region. In
addition, the work of our East Jerusalem YMCA in the region will be jeopardised
as it has a strong presence in the Beit Jala area. The planned wall in the
Beit Jala area will separate the villagers of Beit Jala and Al Khader from
their fields, ruining the livelihood of the people in the area. The wall will
confiscate large areas of land and isolate many Palestinians in cantons inside
the wall. This area is of particular importance to the YMCA’s “Keeping
Hope Alive” campaign through which thousands of olive trees have been
planted through the sponsorship of people in Switzerland, Norway, Scotland
and others working to secure peace, justice and human rights all over the world.
Due to these reasons and considering our mission as a civil society organisation
working for the defence of life and citizen rights, we add our voice to those
that oppose the construction of the wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The YMCA stands firm in its purpose of promoting peace, justice and human rights
in Palestine and Israel, in line with the resolution approved by the 15th World
Council of YMCAs in 2002.
